What do You Know About ANDROID?

You probably know Android, at least by name, you know it’s on a lot of phone, but do you really know what it is?

What is Android?

Android, is an operating system (like Windows or MacOS) mobile (not mobile) based on Linux. Redeemed by Google in 2005 and developed by Google, it is the most widely used operating system in the world as it runs on more than 80% of the phones in the world, as most phones use it, whether it’s low-cost phones, or high-end phones, whether it’s Samsung, or Sony, Huawei or Wiko, all brands of phones, at least almost, use Android as the operating system for their product . This is possible because it is an open operating system, so it means that everyone can see, use and modify the source code of Android, unlike iOS, WindowsPhone, etc …

Android is not just an operating system for phones and tablets. It is diversifying year after year, with AndroidTV for televisions, AndroidAuto for cars, and AndroidWear for connected watches.

What’s the difference with others?

The particularity of Android on the mobile (phone + tablet) compared to WindowsPhone, BlackBerryOS, Tizen, Amazon FireOS or even FirefoxOS is its application store. This is the platform where applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Minecraft and more than 2,600,000 other applications can be downloaded, while the other application stores have “only” a few hundred thousand applications.

And compared to iOS then? Well, even though Android has more app in its Play Store (400,000 more compared to the AppStore). The difference is still slight, the real difference compared to iOS is the fragmentation of the system, that is, possible diversity, each manufacturer can personalize his phone no matter the size, shape , Android will always work perfectly. So we have the choice, while at iOS, you will have the choice between 5 smartphones. Moreover, the freedom we have, users, to personalize our phone with widgets, animated wallpapers, “launcher”, is infinite … Even if we must admit, Apple is making progress for that the user has the ability to customize his phone.
The different versions of Android

Each version in the name of a candy store:

1.0 – Without Name
1.1 – Petit Four
1.5 – Cupcake
1.6 – Donut
2.0 – Eclair
2.2 – Froyo
2.3 –Gingerbread
3.0 – Honeycomb
4.0 – IceCream Sandwich
4.1/2/3 – Jelly Bean
4.4 – KitKat
5.0 – Lollipop
6.0 – Marshmallow
7.0 – Nougat
8.0 – Oreo

A new version is presented every year, and Google gives us the first letter of the version a few months in advance, for example Android 7, also names Android N. Moreover the names of the versions are chosen in alphabetical order. So I can predict that Android 8 will be called Android O!

Now that you know Android, what are you waiting for?
